#HTML5

  • Use HTML5 doctype.

      <!DOCTYPE html>

  • It's recommended to use a strict heading hierarchy structure (Single H1), using the legacy (X)HTML document outline approach.

      <!-- Not recommended: HTML5 heading hierarchy --->
      <section>
      	<h1>First header</h1>
      </section>
      <section>
      	<h1>Second header</h1>
      </section>

     	<!-- Recommended: strict heading hierarchy --->
      <section>
      	<h1>First header</h1>
      </section>
      <section>
      	<h2>Second header</h2>
      </section>

  • Add structure to your content using microdata markup. Use preferred schema.org vocabulary.

  • Use only those parts of HTML5 that are unobtrusive and have fall backs. See: Feature detection
