Doc/warning: JMX autodetection ignoring JDK-proxied @Transactional beans [SPR-5057]

I'm using @ManagedResource to define my jmx beans with <context:mbean-export />.

This works fine if I hard code the bean definitions in my config file.

If I use @Service annotations with context:component-scan/, no mbeans get registered.

This works for me within our test suite. Have you tried whether you can reproduce this in a minimal test case? I guess there's something particular about your setup that prevents this from working properly in your scenario...

My mistake, it's actually the @Transactional attribute. When I changed to a hardcoded bean definition I removed both @Service and @Transactional.

This time around I removed only @Transactional and without it, (and with @Service) my bean does get registered.

@Service should be changed to @Transactional in the subject of this bug report.

It may or may not be related but #6970 looks like the same issue and it was marked as fixed.

Indeed, JDK proxies will hide @ManagedResource etc annotations on the target class... You need to use target-class proxies in order to expose such beans as JMX MBeans as well (annotation-driven proxy-target-class="true"). The issue here is rather that, for some reason, you don't get a descriptive error there but rather silent ignoring of those beans.

I've added a corresponding note to the reference documentation for 2.5.6. We'll revisit this for Spring 3.0 in terms of appropriate defaulting and/or appropriate rejecting.
