discussion: move from discord to zulip

I'm wondering if we should move the clippy channel from discord to zulip.
As for myself, I find that the clippy channel is the only discord channel that I check out from time to time, everything else happens on zulip already and major dev channels have made the move already.

Pro/con list regarding zulip (feel free to edit)

Pros:
*Zulip has topics so you can discuss several topics in one channel at a time without things getting too confusing. (matthiaskrgr)
*A lot of channels have moved already (matthiaskrgr)

Cons:
*Discords mobile app is better (It took a week or two for me to get used to the zulip app but now it's fine) (matthiaskrgr)
*Discord is more widespread (I guess..) But then again, you can register for zulip with your github account that you need anyway in order to contribute (matthiaskrgr)

Also nothing prevents us from "moving" to zulip and simply keeping the discord channel alive for people who want to use discord.

I don't remember needing any special privileges in order to join the zulip instance.

I really don't want two channels, where I have to look if some question was asked or some discussion is happening.

yes, tho I've found the interface to be a little wonky. I personally like zulip and wouldn't be against this change but I also don't feel like the Clippy discord channel gets enough traffic to warrant this change. the main advantage of zulip in my experience is it's ability to do threads for organizing many simultaneously discussions.

In my country, Zulip at night is super slow, sometimes not loading at all. Maybe that's just the problems with my internet and ISP.
I still prefer Zulip chat over Discord.

This didn’t work out for T-cargo IIRC. Most of the folks moved to Zulip and then nobody kept an eye on the discord instance, which eventually meant that anybody with questions would end up hitting an effective /dev/null.

Pros:

I don’t participate in #clippy at all on discord, but I do participate in other channels on Zulip. Having more stuff in a single place is strictly better.

Zulip's terms of service are significantly more aligned with an average Rust user.

Cons:

Random netizen is more likely to have a discord account than a zulip one.

@lzutao do you use the webpage, the mobile app or the desktop app?
The mobile app can take a couple seconds to load sometimes from my experience but I don't remember having a lot of trouble with the webpage.

I use webpage and the mobile app.
Mobile app is faster but it is still slow to load at night.

I'm open to moving to zulip. I kinda prefer Discord but I've been using Zulip a lot more anyway.

I'm in favor of moving to Zulip too to avoid users having to be redirected and to facilitate collaboration between teams. I think it's a pro also that a specific account is not required if you already have a github account.
