Description of issue

In the path /System/Volumes/Data/opt/homebrew/Library/Taps/homebrew folders /homebrew-core && /homebrew-cask both contain full brew git history, which consumes about 1.5Gi of space. I doubt that it's a real requirement for all users, and it would be nice to shrink that.

There was an old discussion on this regard https://github.com/orgs/Homebrew/discussions/2435, but it points to tweaking HOMEBREW_INSTALL_FROM_API, which is missing from https://docs.brew.sh/Manpage#environment. So, where are we now, and how should it be done?

PS: AI recommended to run git gc --aggressive on both folders, which reduced the size to 1Gb, but i suppose that it might be done better

What do brew config and brew doctor say? Because they very likely have some information about this.

and you should no longer have either repository on your disk.
