get_var_stack returned None on an empty string, which caused some methods like get_defintion to incorrectly return None. Empty prefixes in get_var_stack should instead return the 'trivial' stack (a singleton with an empty string).

This bugfix allows for querying definitions at the beginning of a line, which currently doesn't work. I added a test to verify the new behavior.
