Search index init UX is confusing #1609

@benparsons

Description

@benparsons

Steps to reproduce

  1. I want to search, I search and get this error: Message search initialisation failed, check your settings for more information
  2. Which links me to a Settings page where I must find the right option
  3. Clicking "Advanced" I get a new error: Unknown error and a Button to reset
  4. Clicking the button I am told You most likely do not want to reset your event index store
  5. I confirm anyway
  6. The indexing process seems to be working, I can now search

Outcome

What did you expect?

Search to just work

What happened instead?

User has to do many steps, some of which are misleading.

If the whole search initialisation failed, with "Unknown error", maybe the init step should be re-run without even telling the user? Either way, the only path here was to trigger a reset, but the errors and messages along the way are disruptive.
