This PR adds benchmarking with
pytest-benchmarkso that we can get a better understanding on the impact (improvements) on any refactors we do. When run normally, the benchmarking is not run since they are much slower (benchmarked tests are run multiple times to get an average). They can be run with the runner script using./runner benchmark.
