Came here to implement this exact feature. LGTM, though as I'm not an owner doesn't actually help get this PR merged :/ Maybe @KINFOO can help? Would be especially helpful to merge this, add new tag, and upload to luarocks for widespread distribution. Reading from stdin is a must for integrating with a lot of code formatting plugins in editors.
