Unable to Resubmit Application for GitHub Student Developer Pack – "Outstanding Discount Request" Error

Hi GitHub Education Team,

I'm reaching out regarding an issue I’m facing while trying to apply for the GitHub Student Developer Pack.

My application was previously rejected because I hadn’t fulfilled certain criteria — such as providing billing information and using my official college email address. I’ve since updated everything as required and am now fully compliant with the eligibility requirements.

On my GitHub Education dashboard, my previous application shows as rejected. However, when I try to resubmit a new application, I receive the following error message:

There was an error creating the discount request.
Errors: Discount request could not be created.
Discount request errors: You have an outstanding discount request for @palzadafiya. We will get back to you soon.

It seems like my previous application is still in some kind of pending or locked state, despite being marked as rejected, which is preventing me from reapplying.

Has anyone else faced this issue, or is there a way to cancel or reset the previous request?
Any help or guidance from the community or GitHub team would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend you contact support by opening a ticket here, select "Other" and explain your problem.

Before doing anything wait for few hours then follow this steps----

*Clear Browser Cache and Log Out or use a different browser
If waiting doesn't work, the next step is to clear any conflicting data stored in your browser or just use a different browser.

*Clear Cache and Cookies: Go into your browser settings and clear all cache, cookies, and site data. This ensures you are interacting with the most up-to-date version of the GitHub Education page.(Its hard but can be done)

Log Out and Log In: Completely log out of your GitHub account. Close the browser, reopen it, and then log back in. This will establish a fresh session with the server.

Try a Different Browser or Incognito Mode: As a final check, try reapplying using a different web browser or an incognito/private window.

After completing these actions, navigate back to the (https://education.github.com/benefits) and try to apply again.

*Manually Cancel the Previous Application
Check if the system gives you an option to explicitly cancel the stuck request.

Go to the main GitHub Education application page: https://education.github.com/benefits.

Look carefully at your application status. Even if it says "Rejected," there might be a small "Cancel" button or link available. If you see it, click it to formally terminate the previous request. This option is not always visible but is worth checking for.

If the steps above fail, the most reliable way to fix this is to have the GitHub Support team manually reset your application status. They can clear the stuck request from the backend.

Go to the GitHub Support portal: https://support.github.com/contact
Click on "Contact us" or sign in to open a ticket.
Select the options related to GitHub Education and the Student Developer Pack.
When you write your ticket, be clear and concise. Include the following information:

*Your GitHub Username: Clearly mention your username
*The Exact Error Message: Copy and paste the error: You have an outstanding discount request for @palzadafiya. We will get back to you soon.
*Context: Briefly explain that your previous application was rejected, you have now updated your information (billing info, college email), and this error is preventing you from resubmitting.
*Politely ask them to manually cancel or clear the outstanding discount request so that you can submit a new application.

Step 1: Cancel the Outstanding Request
Go to: https://education.github.com/discount_requests
Log in with your GitHub account.
You’ll see your current application status.
If the application is stuck or hasn’t been reviewed, click “Cancel Request”.

📝 Note: If there’s no visible cancel button, wait a few minutes and refresh the page — GitHub may be syncing your request status.

Step 2: Reapply Cleanly
Once the request is cancelled:
Go back to https://education.github.com/pack
Click “Get Student Benefits” or “Reapply”
Submit your application again — make sure:
You’re logged in with your GitHub student account
You upload a valid, dated student ID / proof of enrollment
Your email ends in .edu (optional, but helpful)
The document shows your name, institution name, and date
