Issue Redeeming GitHub Copilot Student Offer – Redirects to Paid Plan

Hi everyone,

I’m a student trying to redeem the free GitHub Copilot offer through the following link:
https://github.com/github-copilot/free_signup

However, when I click the link, it redirects me to this page instead:
https://github.com/github-copilot/pro

On that page, I’m only given the option to subscribe to the paid plan, and it asks for payment details, even though I’m eligible for the free student benefit.

Could you please assist me in redeeming Copilot for free with my student status?

If the GitHub Copilot student signup is redirecting to the paid Pro plan, it typically means the student verification hasn’t been completed or the signup path wasn’t initiated via the GitHub Student Developer Pack.

Here’s the correct flow to access Copilot for free as a verified student:
1. Go to education.github.com/pack and sign in (or create a GitHub account).
2. Use your university-issued email (e.g., @university.edu) to verify your academic status. GitHub may request additional proof such as a student ID or transcript.
3. Once approved (usually within 24 hours), visit github.com/settings/copilot — the free Copilot option should now be available.
4. Finally, install the Copilot extension in your preferred editor (VS Code, JetBrains, etc.) and sign in with your GitHub account.

If it’s still defaulting to the paid version after verification, confirm that your academic email is correctly associated with your GitHub account. If issues persist, contact GitHub Support directly at support.github.com, they’re generally responsive and helpful.

That's because your benefits aren't available yet, you'll get a PRO badge on your profile once they are:

The waiting time may vary depending on different factors, such as the volume of requests; it usually takes a few days, but sometimes it can take a little longer, even a couple of weeks.

Once available, you can claim your Copilot PRO offer on this signup link.

To redeem others benefits, go to the pack offers page, scroll down to the "All offers" section and select any offer that suits you.

In case you encounter a problem claiming any offer, I recommend you raise a ticket here, select "I am a verified student having trouble redeeming my Global Campus offers" and explain your issue.
