Integration and Migration to Microsoft Learn

PLEASE NOTE THAT WHILE WE MOVE TO THIS NEW SYSTEM, THE STUDENT OFFER THAT PROVIDES A FREE VOUCHER IS PAUSED AND WILL RESUME IN THE FALL.

Certificate exams will now be offered through Microsoft Learn. By integrating with Microsoft Learn, we’re able to extend the reach and impact of GitHub learning content through Microsoft’s global scale and robust platform. This makes it easier for learners who are already using Microsoft Learn to discover and engage with GitHub topics. From discovering certifications to registering, scheduling, and taking your exams, everything is now streamlined through a single ecosystem you may already be using.

Users will have to create a MS learn profile to earn certifications now.

This is the flow at a high level:

• Visit GitHub Learn, and schedule on the certification page. (This will bring them to Microsoft learn, if users do not have an account they will be prompted to create one.)
• Schedule exam on Microsoft Learn.
• Complete booking the exam on Pearson VUE.

What this means for the Student Developer Pack offer of free Foundations Certificate Exam Vouchers for Verified Students

• All vouchers, for all users including students, issued for the previous testing platform, PSI, expired on June 30 and cannot be used on Pearson VUE.
• Voucher redemption through the Student Developer Pack is temporarily paused and will resume in the fall once the student voucher migration is complete.
• Unfortunately, we are not able to retroactively reimburse students who choose to pay out of pocket during this break.
• If you experienced issues launching your exam through PSI in late June, please open a ticket with the GitHub Certification Team ([email protected]) and they will assist you directly.

I have a few questions to better understand how this will affect current and prospective learners, especially students:

Transition & Scheduling

1. Do we have an exact timeline for when the student voucher program will resume in the fall? Any estimated month or date would be helpful for planning.
2. For students who were in the middle of their certification journey via PSI and missed the June 30 deadline, is there a way to transition or carry forward their progress?
3. Will the certifications earned previously via PSI be migrated or synced automatically to Microsoft Learn profiles?

5. Will learners now benefit from integrated GitHub + Microsoft certification pathways, or will certifications remain distinct?
