Markdown course completed but not marked as done in the GitHub Education dashboard

Hi everyone,

I’ve completed the “Communicate using Markdown” course — the pull request was merged, I received the final message saying “Congratulations friend, you’ve completed this course!”, and I even created a GitHub Pages site as suggested.

However, the GitHub Education dashboard still shows the course as not started, with the “Start the course” button still visible.

I’m logged in with the same GitHub account on both GitHub Skills and the Education dashboard. I’ve tried refreshing the page and reloading the dashboard, but the status hasn’t changed.

Is there anything else I should do to mark it as completed?

I have the same problem and I can't solve it for the third day. For some reason it won't let me.

Have you finished the GitHub Deep Dive course? Because I can't even finish this one.

I completed the Intro to GitHub course, but it doesn't show as completed. Now, in the GitHub Deep Dive course, only the "Primer: Codespace" appears as successfully completed — the rest doesn't.

I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if it's actually a bug. I believe we really need support from someone on the GitHub team to explain what exactly we need to do or if it's a bug that might be fixed in a few days.

Maybe this is really a bug, because I've already retaken this course three times. I tried to find information about it, even wrote a post on Reddit, but nothing at all.

However, I decided to ask artificial intelligence about it, specifically github tsopilor, and this is what I got: (i don't know how true this is, but maybe he really knows something more)

1. What is GitHub Education (education.github.com)?

GitHub Education is a program that provides students, teachers, and educational institutions with:

- Free access or discounts on various developer tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, DigitalOcean, JetBrains, Canva, etc.).
- A proprietary learning ecosystem: GitHub Classroom, Campus Experts, Campus Program.
- Additional educational resources such as curricula, lesson plans, and university integrations.

But! Education.github.com is not a platform for taking short interactive courses — that's what GitHub Skills is for.

2. Why take courses on skills.github.com?

- Skills are interactive tutorials on GitHub, CI/CD, Codespaces, DevOps, and other topics that are designed to teach you practical skills through real repositories.

- All practical guides (courses) are only available through skills.github.com.

Education.github.com can only contain links to these courses or recommend them, but does not keep its own records of completion.

3. Why such a separation?

GitHub Education is a “benefits and services program” for students — it is about access to resources, not about courses with progress tracking.

GitHub Skills is a learning platform (but without profile tracking, like Coursera or Microsoft Learn).
By joining Education, you get access to benefits, not to a “university” where there is a personal account with courses.

I also redid everything three times. I deleted the repositories, redid everything that was requested and completed the tasks correctly.

From what I've noticed, it's not just us. I saw some other old complaints, from a few years ago, from some people complaining about the same thing.

Apparently, they are not aware or are not listening to the bug feedback. It's not possible that we are so stupid as to not complete some simple tasks... what we really have left is to wait for someone to fix it or unfortunately accept that it will be left like that.

I'm sad, because I would really like to finish it, since my goal with the pack is to really study everything that is offered... but unfortunately, we will have to wait anyway.

In fact, we can learn everything anyway, waiting is probably not very appropriate in this case. It is worth completing the tasks on skills.github.com, of course they will not be counted in any way, but your raps and knowledge will remain.

I was also really sad when I couldn't finish it completely, although I got a lot of pleasure from it.

Since you also have a copilot, then ask him the best services for you, you just need to indicate your skills or goals. I did that and got what I wanted.

Not to mention skills.github.com, we also have Educative in the pack, there are quite a few courses for us. Or even here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/paths/, there are also many options for how to learn. And this is only a fraction (although microsoft learn is free). I think that we shouldn't get hung up on this, we just take the maximum from what we have, if it is within our power.
