Great features, hard to use.

I started using this software as a new photographer and I was overwhelmed by all of the things you can do with it and how hard simple tasks are. I eventually switched to a version of lightroom... from 2010. I think Darktable has a vast amount of features and modules that can be used to make a great photo, but the user experience is frustrating at best. I don't personally want to spend hours upon hours learning the software when I could be editing photos (or doing other stuff).

I really appreciate the project to make an alternative to lightroom (Lightroom is way overpriced) and I want to see this project grow into a great alternative to Lightroom.

darktable is not intended to be a lightroom alternative. It's created for those who need more control.
Why should developers spend plenty of time to redesign a quite capable tool so a 'i want to have a free lightroom' guy doesn't need to spend a fraction of that time to learn how to use it?
if you don't want to spend time to learn, you need to spend money for those producing software for this user group ...
