Rate my setup 🚀 | mid 2025 edition

I already posted a 'Rate my setup' thing here before, because whenever I share screenshots, a few folks ask how to get that same look. I'm no coder really, just picked up writing layout JSONs bit by bit with help from this small but tight-knit community.

Maybe I've got some knack for keyboard layouts (admittedly pretty niche stuff), or maybe I just stumble upon solutions people tend to like. Either way, I want to share them in the proper GitHub spirit - you know, where we all share both the headaches and the wins.

So here goes my layout config. Most of the tricks I had shown in the previous post are still in place.
Note that several things are only useful if you wish to type in Italian. I switched to a flatter, more modern appearance, which fits my minimalistic taste better.

1. Keyboard

You switch to the numpad by tapping and holding 0, same on Ⅲ for 'select all', same for the paste icon for paste.
Single tap on Ⅲ is 'copy', which doubles as 'copy all' when nothing is selected; single tap on the paste icon switches to clipboard manager.

2. Numpad

I don't use symbols at all since I have all I want under the custom popup menus of the main keyboard.

I don't use the landscape mode at all, so I have not refined my layouts for that. Anyway the numpad also works well in that orientation.

Hello I really like your work here and the last one, i just know that heliboard can be customized this much. I have few question so i can kindly copy your homework:

1. How do u decide on what things should be on your keyboard in general? A lot of customization options sometimes makes me overwhelmed
2. How did u make that emoji popup? Looks like it would be super helpful for me
3. I see that u have more kaomoji emote than the default available one. Did u add those by yourself?

1. I needed to work on a custom layout. I'm kind of a software keyboard enthusiast and do lots of typing on my phone, so I wanted everything perfectly tailored to my preferences. Not being a developer though, some concepts were tricky at first. I shamelessly asked for help here whenever I got stuck, and even if the community is small, people were incredibly kind and helped me figure out all the configuration stuff - like how layouts work, combining them, writing proper JSON and such.
2. Ended up creating a layout that overrides the default ones.
3. Went and manually added those few kaomoji I occasionally use, squeezing them into whatever space was left in my main layout 😅
