Tapping a contact with multiple numbers after selecting him from the dial pad always call the same number

Not sure whether this is a bug report, a feature request or none of them (i.e. the current behaviour is the expected one), so I start it as a discussion and wait for further guidance.
Take a contact with several numbers associated with him/her. Open the dial pad and start typing one of those numbers. At some point, tap the icon of that contact. I would expect that the number more similar to the one that you typed is called. Instead, always the first number (or the 'starred' number, if there is one) associated with that contact is called.
I have family members and friends with more than one phone number. I do not remember all of them, but I do remember the first few digits. So, by typing those digits on the dial pad and then tapping the icon I would like to call the number starting with those digits, which is not necessarily the first one in the list.
