Or at least make emojis with BUTTON in their name, or ones that are a button in other sets, actual buttons. |

First, thank you for this font. Also, this is just a suggestion.
The non-smiley object emojis look better (more detailed) in the new versions, in Android 7.1 they only use like one or two colours. I would suggest replacing them with the Android 12 versions (because they have a very similar style), use a script to map them to the Material Design colour palette, and making some tweaks as necesarry.
