What is the basic Visual Studio Code setup in this tutorial by Zach Letherman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzf9A9tkkl4

I am trying to follow this tutorial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzf9A9tkkl4 I quickly realized my basic VSCode set up is different than his and I am getting confused as to where stuff is going when it is generated (i.e. his _site folder doesn't show). Also, all of as sudden my terminal isn't showing the file generation. I have tried to tweak my VSCODE, but am not getting the same results.

VSCode is infinitly configurable (which can be confiusing). I'm not sure why the _site folder isn't showing in the video but I wouldn't worry too much about it. It should show up in your project folder when you run npx @11ty/eleventy --serve.

What exactly do you mean when you say your terminal isn't showing the file generation? You should get some output to the terminal whenever you edit and save a template. If you can share a little more detail, we'll try and get you up and running.

Thank you SO much for your response. I have now done a complete uninstall and reinstall of vscode. The first bump I run into is getting emmet to dump html5 boiler plate information into the index.html. I have checked the emmet.triggerExpansionOnTab on both workspace and user setting. The ! abbreviation works (BUT, it doesn't look like his), but not the HTML:5. This is what it does when I try that: I cannot find via googling the key and value for html5 in the language settings (I think that is the next step).

I just realize Capitalization is important! so small case html:5 works. But I still don't get the same boiler plate. I am sure there is a way to fix that....looking now.

I'm not sure if I should mark each correction as an answer (Not sure it if will close the question out). So for now I am leaving it open.
The next hump: When running npx @11ty/eleventy --serve I do get [11ty] Server at http://localhost:8081/ but when I cntrl Click I get the following error message:

• I installed Live Server by Ritwit Dey and my html does appear correctly in the browser when I click the Go Live button provided by that extension.
• I am attempting to fix this with a few things I found via googling....

I ended up having to uninstall llty and reinstall it. Now the Cntrl click seems to work!

Now stuck. I got to 3:40 in the video. I attempted to update the post-1.md file to add the 'front matter'

It isn't updating automatically and then I noticed the file structure seems to be adding extra folders:

Question: As you may have read above I started all over with vscode. I added _site/** but it didn't hide the site directory, but **_site/ does. Why did you choose to do it the way you did it?
